For Theo “Teddy” Deming, a love for hats has always been about more than style—it’s a connection to family, creativity, and the stories we carry with us.

Originally from North Branch, Michigan and now based in Fenton, Michigan, Theo has always been a people person. For the past 20 years, his outgoing personality, strong work ethic, and genuine ability to connect with others have shaped his career across sales, marketing, radio, and the automotive industry. Throughout every role, Theo’s greatest passion has remained the same—building lasting relationships and making every interaction more memorable than the last. Helping others feel valued, seen, and heard.

Today, he continues helping customers find their perfect vehicle at Shea Chevrolet while bringing that same level of personal attention and care to every Broadway Brims client. Whether helping someone find the right vehicle or designing a one-of-a-kind hat, Theo takes the time to understand each person and make the experience just as memorable as the final result.

Growing up, Theo admired his grandfather, Grandpa Toth, and the incredible collection of hats he gathered throughout his life. Each hat carried its own personality, and Grandpa Toth’s appreciation for them left a lasting impression. Over time, that admiration grew into a genuine love for hats of his own and eventually became the inspiration behind Broadway Brims.

Creativity has always been close to home, too. Theo grew up with a mom, Barbie Deming who owned Scrap Happy, a local scrapbooking store where members of the community could gather, purchase supplies, and bring their creative ideas to life. Being surrounded by color, materials, and handmade projects gave Theo an early look at the joy that comes from creating something personal and sharing that creativity with others.

Years later, that creative influence found its way into Broadway Brims. Barbie recently taught him how to sew, allowing him to begin creating handmade hat bands and explore even more original ideas through sewing and design. What started in her scrapbooking store has come full circle—her creativity, skills, and encouragement now help Theo add an even more personal, handcrafted touch to each brim.

After years of searching for a creative outlet of his own, Theo discovered the art of custom hat design. With the help of YouTube videos and Facebook Reels, plenty of trial and error, and a willingness to learn, he taught himself how to transform each hat into a completely unique creation. What began as a new interest quickly became a passion and a way to finally bring the ideas in his head to life.

The name Broadway Brims draws inspiration from Nashville’s iconic Lower Broadway—a destination known for live country music, western style, bright lights, honky-tonks, and unmistakable energy. Much like the hats Theo creates, Broadway is bold, expressive, full of character, and made to stand out.

Today, Theo personally designs and handcrafts every Broadway Brims creation. From handmade bands and carefully selected accessories to custom details created specifically for each customer, no two hats are exactly alike. Every brim is thoughtfully designed to reflect the personality, style, and story of the person wearing it.

Outside of Broadway Brims, Theo is a proud fiancé to Jordin and dad to his daughter, Julianna—two of his biggest supporters as he turns his creativity into something all his own.
